The DNA Special Interest Group meets on the first Friday of each month in the OGS Annex. It is open to members and the public. Bring whatever DNA questions you have to the meeting. It is a place for anyone with questions about how or where to find information can come together and help each other. If you are not able to attend but have questions, please email us

Revolutionary War Records (Hybrid class)  (Education)
10:00 am to 12:00 pm
HYBRID: OGS Annex, 965 Oak Alley, Eugene, OR and on Zoom
 
The 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary War is next year, 2026 and many people are checking to see if one or more of their ancestors served in the war. This class will focus on the Patriot side (us) but will mention the Loyalists (British). You'll learn what records were created, where you may find them, especially those online, and where to locate information on the war itself.
The class will be recorded and available for those registered to view for two weeks following the class.

Class fee: $10 for OGS members and $15 for nonmembers

Genealogy Q & A - In Person  (Special Interest Groups)
1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
OGS Annex, 965 Oak Alley, Eugene, OR

Genealogy Q & A meets in the odd months on the second Sunday from 1:00 – 3:00 pm in the Annex. We will meet on the third Sunday in May due to Mother’s Day, so we’ll see you on the 18th.

Stuck on a brick wall? Maybe you don’t know where to look next or where to find the records you need. We will provide suggestions for you. We will not do the research for you, but you can take our ideas and conduct further research in resources that may help solve your research dilemma.
What we will need from you: Details on the problem ancestor and their family, what records you have, where you have researched this ancestor, and which records you have already looked into. Please bring your laptop and/or paper research with you.

Everyone is welcome to bring your questions, brick walls, or requests for guidance about researching your family history. If you would like more information, you can contact Linda A or Dawn.

OGS Genealogy Book Club - In Person  (Special Interest Groups)

OGS Annex, 965 Oak Alley, Eugene, OR

We selected The Chester Creek Murders (Venator Cold Case Series Book 1) by Nathan Dylan Goodwin for our April book. It is about a fictional company, Venator, that works with the police on cold cases to identify the perpetrators of violent crimes and identify Jane and John Does and shows us their process using DNA. In this book it focus on the murders of three young women. We will meet on Sunday, May 18th, to discuss the book.

May Lunch & Learn (Meets In-Person)  (Education)

This monthly educational and social gathering by OGS is open to OGS members and the public. We start at 11:00 am Pacific with a roundtable discussion with attendees sharing their knowledge about the topic. A potluck salad and dessert lunch at noon will be followed by an education program from 1:00 - 2:00 pm Pacific. We meet in person in the OGS Annex at 965 Oak Alley, Eugene, next to our library.

12:00 pm  Potluck Salad and Dessert lunch - Members donate a salad or dessert for the lunch or you may bring your own sack lunch and beverage. Coffee, hot tea, cups, plates, napkins, and utensils are provided. If you have a special diet, then feel free to bring your own lunch. (We ask for a suggested donation of $5.00 to cover the cost of supplies and meeting room rent.)
 
  1:00 pm  Program: Darrell Jabin, "Oregon's Traveling Historian," has been researching and sharing unique local history since 2009. Darrell's award-winning videos have a growing social media audience, and he is a prolific speaker on history. His Facebook intro says: Discovering, researching, and sharing Oregon history through videos, presentations, and social media.

Research Party - In Person  (Special Interest Groups)
1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
OGS Annex, 965 Oak Alley, Eugene, OR

The Research Party is an opportunity to do research at OGS with others. Everyone works on their research but is free to discuss what they are working on, share finds, and ask questions. It is not meant to be an instructional event, just a fun time to research when the library is not normally open. You will be able to access many of the records on FamilySearch that are not available to you at home. You are welcome to bring a beverage and snack.

We usually meet in the even months on the third Sunday from 1:00 – 3:00 pm in the Annex but may move to a different Sunday.
